There has been an intensive effort on the part of the God-head to sanctify/separate God's people from attachment to this world...
I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people. And ye shall be holy unto me: for I the LORD am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be mine. Lev. 20:24, 26

Sanctified by God the Father. Jude 1
sanctified: to make holy, that is, (ceremonially) purify or consecrate; (mentally) to venerate: - hallow, be holy, sanctify.
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17
The very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. I Thes. 5:23

Jesus ... that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Heb. 13:12
