The meek ... shall increase their joy in the LORD, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. Isa. 29:19
Hebrew: depressed (figuratively), in mind (gentle) or circumstances (needy, especially saintly): - humble, lowly, meek, poor
meek: Etymology//Middle English meek, meke, borrowed from a Scandinavian source such as Old Norse mjúkr, "soft". 1. Humble, modest, meager, or self-effacing. 2. Submissive, despirited, or of broken will.
Webster's dictionary is very similar: 1 : enduring injury with patience and without resentment : MILD 2 : deficient in spirit and courage : SUBMISSIVE 3 : not violent or strong
Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Greek: mild, that is, (by implication) humble
