From Samuel Bagster's Daily Light for the Daily Path Devotional [c. 1875]
...with application and prayer responses by me...
That through death He might destroy him that had the power of death. Heb. 2:14
Our Saviour Jesus Christ ... hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. II Tim. 1:10
Lord, help us get over our senseless selfishness and give the gospel, convinced it is life and immortality to those who need it!
He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD shall wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. Isa. 25:8
no death...no tears...no rebuke...cf. to Rev 21
When this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I Cor. 15:54-57
Death is SWALLOWED UP! ha! Glory to God! the 'sting of death' is sin...which of is will not feel a sting?
God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. II Tim. 1:7
Samuel Baxter in his day saw much death, and many lived each day as though life were short; may I live it with God's power/confidence; love of God and living for Him; and with sound/clear thinking of mind
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Psa. 23:4
I shall not fear death nor it's shadow! for THOU ART WITH ME! WITH ME! WITH ME! thy rod and thy staff, indicators of a shepherd's presence, they do comfort me...
